conviction

Conviction is the act or process of convicting an accused of a crime in a court of law. Conviction is the act of a legal tribunal adjudging a person guilty of a criminal offence and passing a sentence. Conviction means final conviction and not by trial count merely. The primary meaning of the word conviction is judicial determination of a case and it involves two matters, a finding of guilty or the acceptance of a plea of guilty followed by sentence. The word is also used in a secondary sense, that is, to express a verdict of guilty or acceptance of a plea of guilty before the adjudication which is only completed by sentence.
