treasure trove

When an money, gold, silver, plate or bullion is found in any place and no man knoweth to whom the property is, then the property thereof belongeth to the King: Termes de la Ley. It is the hiding, and not the abandonment, of the property that entitles the King to it : It was a common-law offence to conceal treasure trove from the Crown. The coroner is empowered to hold in inquest relating to treasure trove: (only gold and silver are treasure trove).
