illegal contract

A contract is illegal if it involves doing something illegal or contrary to public policy or if the intention of the parties in making the contract is thereby to promote something which is illegal or contrary to public policy. Illegal contracts are contracts forbidden by law or declared void by the Legislature, namely (1) Agreements of which the object or consideration is unlawful either wholly or in part. (2) Agreements made without consideration unless they are in writing and registered or are promises to compensate for something done or are promises to compensate for something done or are promises to revive a barred debt. (3) Agreements in restraint of the marriage. (4) Agreements in restraint of trade. (5) Agreements in restraint of legal proceedings. (6) Agreements of uncertain meaning. (7) Agreements by way of wager. (8) Agreements contingent upon impossibles events. (9) Agreements, to do an impossible act.
