alibi [Elsewhere.] A defence where an accused alleges that at the time when the offence with which he is charged was committed, he was elsewhere. Notice of intention to raise an alibi must be given. |

alibi Alibi means elsewhere. It is a defence resorted to where the party accused, in order to prove that he could not have committed the crime with which he is charged, offers evidence that he was in a different place at the time the offence was committed. Alibi is the plea of having been at the time of commission of an act elsewhere-than at the place of commission the fact or state of having been elsewhere at the time; a plausible excuse especially for failure or negligence. |
