Halal Certification in Taiwan

The issuance of halal certificates in Taiwan is segregated among different organisations there. For instance, the issuance of halal certificates for local services is usually produced by the Chinese Muslim Association (CMA) or the Taipei Grand Mosque. As for international services such as import-export products, the Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association (THIDA) or the Taiwan Halal Center (THC) is responsible to issue halal certifications.

Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association (THIDA)

Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association (THIDA) or 台湾清真产业品质保证推广协会 is one of the halal organisations that is responsible to issue halal certificates in Taiwan. The body was established in 2011 and is based in Taipei. THIDA consists of several significant departments, including one to promote the halal industry and another to issue halal certificates which include evaluation and examination of products, audit and supervision as well as education and training for such halal products. The body is one of the recognised members of the World Halal Food Council.

Taiwan Halal Center (THC)

The Taiwan Halal Center (THC) or 台湾清真推广中心 was established in 2017 in Taipei by the Taiwan external Trade Development Council. The establishment of the body was made due to the increase in Muslim tourists there, with a view to attract and promote Taiwan’s halal industry, locally and internationally.

Taipei Grand Mosque

The Taipei Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in Taiwan and has issued an abundance of halal certificates for local services there. In the 1960s, the Mosque was built to serve the large community of Muslims there and has since been recognised internationally by other halal certification bodies as one of the organisations that produce legitimate halal certificates.
